LG G6 vs. LG G5 new 2017

LG has officially introduced the LG G6 flagship smartphone and the first question that would arise for someone who has already been using the LG G5, is whether the new smartphone is really a good upgrade or is the LG G5 still a not-so-bad one to keep using. Of course, the brand can bring about a lot of changes but how big are these and whether they can be enough to make one shift to a new phone, let’s find out in the comparison below.

First off, you don’t have to fret much about the modularity because LG has almost taken it off and it is a solid unibody phone that you are looking at, and some who were rather disappointed that LG had given a weird way of pulling the battery out of the LG G5, will now have no option, which is at least what you see on most of the others. Removable batteries don’t serve anything really important now, and they don’t have to be one of the special features of a phone.

LG G6 vs. LG G5 – Display

The company has now made the display bigger, with the LG G6 having a 5.7-inch QHD+ display when compared to the 5.3-inch display having a QHD resolution. The resolution on the LG G6 is 2880 x 1440 pixels while that on the LG G5 is the 2560 x 1440 pixels. Also, the screen protection has got better with the latest one having a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection compared to the Gorilla Glass 4 on the LG G5.

LG G6 vs. LG G5 – Internal hardware

While the LG G5 had the Snapdragon 820 processor, the LG G6 didn’t show up with the latest Snapdragon 835 but it is the Snapdragon 821 processor that powers the new flagship. Both the phones, though, have the same amount of RAM, i.e. 4GB.

The battery capacity has expectedly gone up, with the phone having a 3300 mAh battery while the predecessor had a 2800 mAh battery in comparison. Both the phones though have the same quick charging technology, i.e. the Quick Charge 3.0 technology.

LG G6 vs. LG G5 – Cameras

There is a slight change in the cameras this time as LG has decided to have a combination of two 13-megapixel cameras, one of which is the standard one and the other one has a wide-angle lens. Last year, the LG G5 had a 16MP + 8MP camera combination and there was a support for 4K video recording that is there on the LG G6 as well but the sensors have been changed to give a better imaging experience.

As for the front camera, the LG G6 now has a 5-megapixel front facing camera with the 100-degree wide angle lens when compared to the 8-megapixel front facing camera on the LG G5.

Other differences between LG G6 and LG G5

  • The LG G6 has a solid unibody design unlike the modular design of the LG G5.
  • The LG G6 has a non-removable battery, while the battery on the G5 could be pulled out from the bottom.
  • The G5 wasn’t water resistant but the LG G6 is IP68 certified for water resistance.
  • The new phone has Dolby Vision technology, and is the first phone to do so.
